How to buy on Sales

Sales have arrived and as every year they create contradictory feelings. We love sales because they allow us to buy at much better prices both our “capricios” and big pieces of wardrobe, and we hate sales because they mean disorder, people and  lots and lots of caos.
This last part can be eliminated if we buy online. There are no queues at the cashier, there are not three people fighting for a necklace, you don’t have to get up early, you don’t have to wear a scarf and gloves and the price is so good that sometimes you do not need any extra discount…
But what would January be without Sales? So vital, so social, so, basically, fun. But also dangerous, because to know how to buy on Sales is a real art. Some advice?
-Make a list of what you need. Impulses can be fun but they can leave you trembling. Buy with a mixture of head and heart.
-The best days are the first and the last ones.
-Invest in the good pieces. Buy this necklace that you have been wishing for months, the pair of boots that next year will be almost new, the tenth black blazer.
-Make sure you know which pieces are on sale: check that both the original price and the discount price are shown.
-Buy items that are never out of fashion: a strong ring, a necklace of one of the designers that  you like most, a pair of jeans.
-For sure that you still have to get a present for somebody. This is the moment.
Once you know this: prepared, ready, go!

Museums, women and jewelry

Time to start preparing my list of good wishes for the new year. And among them is to return to some cities like Berlin or Athens. They are both capitals where past is as present as future. They show it with two new museums that have just opened.

In the case of Berlin, it is not a new museum but a reopening. The Neues Museum has reopened after 10 years of restoration; it is a project from the architect David Chipperfield and it promises light, master pieces and an unforgettable visit. The picture most used to communicate this inauguration is the one of Nefertiti. It is amazing to realize that she keeps  being an unbeatable ideal of feminine beauty. The make up, the gesture, the necklaces that we imagine with color stones…. They are simply perfect.

TheParthenonNewAcropolisMus

In Athens, the event of the year has been the opening of the Museum of the Acropolis. A work from Bernard Tschumi, a shocking contrast but  a work that talks with the environment and that promises jewel after jewel. For instance this will be the first time that the Cariatides will be seen from all sides. Both examples give a lot of inspiration for designers of jewelry and fashion jewelry, even though thousands of years have gone by. Or maybe because of this.

P.S.: have you participated in the lottery? Hurry up.

PICK OF THE WEEK

Anillo-fashionRing from Fashion collection.

Silver plated. By Nadia Rabosio.

You will like them if you like: strong designs with small  and delicate details.
For women: who recognize clear signs of craftsmanship, like the backstitch sown by the designer to the ring to refer to the fashion and couture world.
You can wear them with: the green jade  nail polish from Channel. If you can find it (there is a waiting list!). With the earrings of the same collection.
Why do we choose them: because even though they seem very femenine, they are perfectly suitable for men. This was not expected, was it?

Chaverdi’s inspiration

P1060290

This is the vieuw from Chaverdi’s window. It is the lake of Banyoles, imposing, sleepy and romantic air, as all lakes have. At the same time it is a symbol of live. Here children play, people swim, you walk around it and there are competitions as the World Canoeing Championship that will be held in 2010.

I like lakes. The sea always takes the flatteries, but a lake keeps an special authenticity. Not long ago they published a list of the nicest lakes in the world. Among them were the Plitvice in Croacia, the Crater Lake, the Dead Sea, the Caspian Sea, Lake Titicaca and Lake Atitlan. That’s my favorite. It is located in Guatemala, surrounded by volcanoes and seems to be beyond time and space. In Atitlan, whose water is blue as the Caribe and charges positive energy, there are many little towns and small ecologic hotels, as the Lomas de Tzunumá, with huge wooden balconies hanging above the lake. To lean out and see the daybreak is an experience of absolute luxury.

Nature, together with Art and Culture are the inspiring sources of our designers; somehow this lake is behind Chaverdi’s jewelry and fashion jewelry. It is nice to shift the sight from the computer and the papers and take a look through the window. This way the color of water, the sky and the plants becomes very present. Afterwards we go back to our limited editions, our necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings and we feel that there is a bridge between what we do and what we see from our room with a view.

P.S.: Which are your favorite lakes?

Limited editions

michael-jackson-this-is-it-movie-poster-revealed

“This is it” has just been released. The film is about the final rehearsals of Mickael Jackson last tour. The box office analysts assure that the film will earn more than 400 million dollars. With such a success, this film will be among the 50 most seen films in the world. Numbers to make your head spin. But, why are so many people going to see the film? To see the amazing dances of Jacko? To relive the Balmain fashion? To sing along Billy Jean? Maybe, but there is another reason,“This is it” will only be on for two weeks.
The ephemeral idea is very strong in the show business, as well as in the fashion industry. It means that what we see is so special that we can neither massify nor adulterate it. The idea of opening  ephemeral stores,  of launching collections for a concise period and to organize sales events for “as long as stocks last” is an inheritance from the art world. Fashion has recuperated it with alliances of H&M with designers such as Lagerfeld and this past November, with Jimmy Choo. The secret of the success? That when they are over, they are over.

All our designs of jewelry and fashion jewelry are part of a limited series…they are limited editions. This means that our designs are manufactured in a certain quantity of necklaces, rings, bracelets and rings. And there is not any more. When those quantities are sold, it is over. We do not want to be everywhere. We want to be where we want to be. It sounds redundant, but this is it, as Michael Jackson would say.
