Pantone, who knows more than anybody else about colors, has given the following forecast for 2010. Turquoise will be the color of the year. To be exact Pantone 15-5519. Enough of gloom and dull colors: the moment has arrived to be optimistic.
Pantone says the following about this color with a stone name:
“it is intriguing, refreshing and calming. Advisable against stress, tiredness and to feel refreshed. It encourages us to restart with new strengths and new ideas. Turquoise is good for moments when we feel lonely, it helps us to be more communicative sensitive and creative”.
The Pantone arguments: it looks well on men and women, everybody reacts in a positive way, it refers to the ocean, to nature, it is easily translated into fashion and jewelry.
Our reasoning: it is perfect with silver and works very well with the other stones used in fashion jewelry.
And on top of this, who are we to contradict the people of Pantone, with their 3.000 colors?

You will like it if you like: craftsmanship. This necklace consist of seven small and irregular cavities, decorated with hot enamel and composed on a silver plated base.
For women: of any age. It is the perfect present for a girl of 17 and a women of 50.
You can wear them with: big shirts and neo-hippy dresses. With a black asymmetric T-shirt. Mixed with other longer necklaces.
Why do we choose it: because it stands for the spirit of 2010.
We agree that it is more fun to sit in front of the computer and decide on our Christmas presents than to walk on the streets wrapped on a scarf and arriving home exhausted.
This does not mean that we have to go shopping in our pyjamas. To buy online can be a shopping experience as attractive as going to Top Shop in London, to the new Uniqlo in Paris or to Prada in Tokyo.
An example: I want to buy necklaces for my friends. And I am going to do it fully convinced to buy something nice. I will think about the stones that they like, which materials, what kind of life they have, on what occasions they will wear those necklaces… Because all this requires time I need to be at ease. I look for comfortable clothes: a big flannel shirt on top of a pair of leggings, or a man’s sweater, “robbed” from somewhere, on top of a pair of jeans, a cotton dress that I cover with a huge woolen jacquet. Any comfortable piece of cloth but that if anybody comes unexpectedly to visit you, you will not feel in panic.
So we now have our surfing clothes. For sure that now, because of the cold weather, we feel like having a drink while we are shopping for fashion jewelry for our friends. The perfect drink to have while buying online is tea. It is healthy, delicious, always inspires “warmth”. I love tea from Mariege Frères, reputed to be the best tea in the world. Even though they are from Paris, very much from Paris, we can also find them in Spain.
And what else do we need? May be some music. The great jazz women never let us down, so we open Spotify and we look for Sarah Vaughan. That’s it. We have the perfect ambiance. An afternoon of shopping.

You will like it if you like: the mixture of textures and materials. In this necklace, silver is combined with lava stone and the effect of silver with black works very well.
For women: who are not very timid; it is for sure that everybody will look at this necklace.
You can wear them with: any dress that you will use those holidays. With a silk top low-necked and a knot at the waist.
Why do we choose it: because it is one of the few accessories that you can mix with others of the same collection (like bracelets) without looking exaggerated. And because it is a limited edition.
Some days ago María Victoria received a phone call and she got the message that she had won a pair of silver earrings. Of course, she though that this was a joke. It was not. This nice woman from Murcia (Spain) bought a ring at the online shop of Chaverdi. Stars were on her side and the ring brought her to a pair of jewelry earrings.
She explains this among laughs. “I wanted to buy a present for myself. Sometimes you like things so much that you do not have to wait for somebody to offer them to you”, she says with conviction. This present to herself was the Asymmetric ring Olive from the Garda collection by Nadia Rabosio.
Why did you choose this ring?
Because it was an original design, and the hot enamel it is not very common. And I like big rings, different, that people take notice. In fact I have shown it at the office and people have loved it!
And how did you find Chaverdi?
I am often on the internet, I spend hours and hours with my PC. I saw the online store and I liked it, and I must say that I know a lot of online stores. I love the design. Their pieces are simple but make you have a different image every day.
Were you looking for a ring?
Yes, this time I was. For the present to myself. But I liked a lot the necklaces with colored stones also.
And now that you have a pair of earrings that you did not count on, how are you going to wear them? I will wear them with a black sweeter, so that they stand out. And with my hair tied up.
What do you like most of this Chaverdi present? The silver. In general I love the silver they use.
Do you usually buy on the internet? A lot. I spend hours and I have bought a lot. Advantages? All of them. Specially time: a do not have a lot of time and in a couple of minutes you can buy.
Christmas is approaching. Are you going to buy more presents online? Sure!
Mª Victoria admits, at the end of our conversation, that she loves reading. She reads everything and of course she has also fell in love with the “Millenium” trilogy. We finished talking wondering if there will be a fourth book or not…

Time to start preparing my list of good wishes for the new year. And among them is to return to some cities like Berlin or Athens. They are both capitals where past is as present as future. They show it with two new museums that have just opened.
In the case of Berlin, it is not a new museum but a reopening. The Neues Museum has reopened after 10 years of restoration; it is a project from the architect David Chipperfield and it promises light, master pieces and an unforgettable visit. The picture most used to communicate this inauguration is the one of Nefertiti. It is amazing to realize that she keeps being an unbeatable ideal of feminine beauty. The make up, the gesture, the necklaces that we imagine with color stones…. They are simply perfect.
In Athens, the event of the year has been the opening of the Museum of the Acropolis. A work from Bernard Tschumi, a shocking contrast but a work that talks with the environment and that promises jewel after jewel. For instance this will be the first time that the Cariatides will be seen from all sides. Both examples give a lot of inspiration for designers of jewelry and fashion jewelry, even though thousands of years have gone by. Or maybe because of this.

Why do we choose them: because even though they seem very femenine, they are perfectly suitable for men. This was not expected, was it?
This is the vieuw from Chaverdi’s window. It is the lake of Banyoles, imposing, sleepy and romantic air, as all lakes have. At the same time it is a symbol of live. Here children play, people swim, you walk around it and there are competitions as the World Canoeing Championship that will be held in 2010.
I like lakes. The sea always takes the flatteries, but a lake keeps an special authenticity. Not long ago they published a list of the nicest lakes in the world. Among them were the Plitvice in Croacia, the Crater Lake, the Dead Sea, the Caspian Sea, Lake Titicaca and Lake Atitlan. That’s my favorite. It is located in Guatemala, surrounded by volcanoes and seems to be beyond time and space. In Atitlan, whose water is blue as the Caribe and charges positive energy, there are many little towns and small ecologic hotels, as the Lomas de Tzunumá, with huge wooden balconies hanging above the lake. To lean out and see the daybreak is an experience of absolute luxury.
Nature, together with Art and Culture are the inspiring sources of our designers; somehow this lake is behind Chaverdi’s jewelry and fashion jewelry. It is nice to shift the sight from the computer and the papers and take a look through the window. This way the color of water, the sky and the plants becomes very present. Afterwards we go back to our limited editions, our necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings and we feel that there is a bridge between what we do and what we see from our room with a view.

Have you seen Stromboli (Rossellini, 1950)? In this Italian film, Ingrid Bergman is a northern woman who, escaping from a complicated life, moves to an island dominated by a volcano. In Stromboli, the volcano is as much a protagonist as the Swedish actress. And you will say: why is she talking about this? Well, because we don’t want to be less than Rossellini (even though this is an unforgivable audacity) and we want to put a volcano (nice and quiet of course) in our lives.
How do we do it? Through its lava, a natural phenomena that inspires beauty as well as respect. The designer Nadia Rabosio has recuperated the Italian lava, black, very much black, porous and with an unusual fell and she has designed a jewelry collection called “Hojas”. Now you can buy earrings, necklaces and bracelets where the volcanic lava is mixed with silver. Craftsmanship is behind this jewelry and you can even see the designer’s fingerprints on the silver.
